Instructional Approach

The ability to transfer what is learned in the classroom to industry begins with the mastery of core content and competencies. To develop the soft skills and problem solving skills necessary for our students to compete in an ever changing society, UAFA recognizes the power of application through project based learning and experiential learning.  Each scholar will be challenged to demonstrate knowledge and make connections between the core content and its place in the real world.

Our instructors are facilitators who use art integration to strengthen the delivery of math, science, ELA and social studies. This methodology reinforces the link between subject area content and its place as a relevant competency within industry.  At Utopian we foster learning beyond walls.  As much as students learn we want them to do.

Creative Arts Pathways

At Utopian,  to ensure that scholars can have access  and are exposed to current industry methods, our instructors are either current practitioners within the industry or have been within the industry they teach. To provide our scholars with relevant and current information we partner with professionals who have committed to supplement the academic environment. In the first year all 6th graders will survey the career pathways offered and then determine which they will gain deeper knowledge for their subsequent years. In each pathway students will, over the course of three years, have a firm foundation and depth of working knowledge in at least two career pathways. What our scholars will experience will build their capacity to obtain the professional and technical skills that will lead to internships and eventual employment once of age.
